More Homebrew

The turn of the year was very busy with racking the Mead for the first time, allowing the obligatory taste and it was really delicious. Very easy to drink. I expected a not nice tasting alcohol, as it said everywhere it wouldn't be nice yet, but no... really good! Unless we all have a bad palate. lol

Also, we started a Cranberry-Pomegranate Wine with the following recipe.

  • 600g fresh chopped cranberries
  • 2 Oranges
  • 2 Pomegranates
  • 1 pound raisins
  • 3 pounds granulated sugar (about 6 3/4 cups)
  • 1 campden tablet
  • 1 teaspoon nutrients
  • 1/4 teaspoon pectic enzyme
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon acid blend
  • 1 package wine yeast
  • 1 gallon water
  • It too got its first racking in the new year. It already tasted quite nice. Very fruity and expectedly sweet.

I made too much of it though, so the third carboy was also half filled and topped up with more 2 more pomegranates, 2 oranges and a little raspberry.

All three carboys are now bubbling away (not so much the mead anymore) underneath the stairs where the boiler keeps the temperature warm and constant. I shall try and forget about them for a while.

In the meantime I am trying to get more demijohn's off freecycle and I might just be successful. I think, Christmas presents for 2010 might be sorted soon. :-)
